The Showrunner Reveals He Knows How Pluribus Will End... Currently.
Vince Gilligan did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “I was surprised by the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”
Now that Season 1 of the popular sci-fi show coming to an end—and Season 2 already in development—Gilligan and his team opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.
About the Tremendous Audience Reaction
One could easily to get swayed by the constant speculation and audience predictions about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to ignore the noise.
“The experience is akin to constantly eating your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he says. “It's amazing, but I hear about it anecdotally, and that's by design. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. Not because I don't care. It's a deep trap I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”
Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.
“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by what people are saying.”
“Better to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.
The Central Mystery: Has Vince Gilligan Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus?
Considering Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by public opinion, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… sort of.
“There are some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to discard a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”
On the other hand, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.
“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”
Of course, why mess with the classics?
“My dream is Carol to awaken with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.
