Iran Claims Attack on American Facility in Bahrain, Amid Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area in the area of the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is unclear and the United States has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - said they have shot down missiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems dealt with the projectiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," it added.
The statement noted debris landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
